NEPK was contacted on Friday May 8th with the following statement :
"I am the Neighbourhood Beat Manager who covers the Quayside area of Newcastle.
It has been brought to my attention that a number of people train around the Blackgate Museum near to the Castle Keep in the City Centre. There is concern that if people continue to train there then there is a risk that ireparable damage may be caused to the walls at that location. Some of the walls are over 800 years old and are classed as protected ancient monuments, subsequently if any damage was caused then it could take months to get permission for the repairs to take place not withstanding the costs involved. There is also concern that someone training at the location may suffer serious injuries due to the nature and age of the structure.
From a Police perspective we want to resolve the issue in the most appropriate fashion, we want to have to avoid having to prosecute anyone for causing damage at that location and I appreciate any damage caused would not be deliberate or malicious and also we don't want anyone suffering a serious injury at one of Newcastle's premier tourist attractions."
In response to this, NEPK recommends that all traceurs training in Newcastle adhere to this advice and refrain from training at the Blackgate/Castle Keep area. If you choose to ignore this advice and train in the area then you do so at your own risk of prosecution or injury. Thankyou. Posted on Saturday May 9th 2009 |
